Ch-2 - I Injured You by Accident, It Was Not a Vengeful Act!

Jade peak is the main peak of Fuxi Mountain. At its summit is an ancient spell formation known as the Spiritual Spring Formation.

It is said to have been created by a supreme deity to protect the immortal realm with a barrier, but when the deity passed on, his lifetime’s cultivation was also dispersed. Most of the cultivation sects he established over twelve mountains were lost in a great war between immortals and demons five centuries ago. What remained was four mountains and eight sects, among them, Ling Qingzi’s Tian Shu Sect, was the strongest and the unchallenged leading sect in the immortal realm.

Although the Spiritual Spring Formation had been weakened by the passing of the deity, the formation’s core was still active. It might have lost its ability to cast a protective barrier over the immortal realm, but Ling Qingzi had other uses for it. It became a compulsory training ground for senior disciples, to prepare for overcoming barriers in order to attain higher cultivation levels.

From Bai Fanlu's understanding of the book, the training was the equivalent of a mock exam. Now, this formation has been adjusted to an advanced difficulty level by the examiner, and after passing this formation, acting Sect Leader Yun Zhan will receive extremely high quality refining materials. This will allow him to turn his magical weapon, Bi LuoBlue Sky/Heaven, into a god level weapon and his power would advance immensely within a day.

Of course that is how the original plot would flow.

Bai Fanlu was currently being forced beyond his ability and was adjusting to the feeling and flying through the clouds. He looked out into the distance where there were bright green flashes and an ominous wind.

There were forces battling in mid-air, and it was hard to tell the difference between them. He could see white-robed disciples battered by the air currents and unable to approach the demonic creature.

Nearing the battlefield, Bai Fanlu felt an increasing apprehension. In the novel, there wasn’t a clear description of the demonic creature’s grade. He only recalled that the book’s Bai Fanlu charged in with his sword and risked his life to protect Yun Zhan.

"What a strong demonic aura..." Wang Chongyu moved in front of Bai Fanlu, preventing him from moving forward.

"!" It was the first time Bai Fanlu flew on a sword, he could barely manage and almost failed to stop in time.

You are finally stopping me?

Thinking back to the conversation that had just happened, Bai Fanlu believed that he had been dumped with a burdensome friend—

Wang Chongyu said, "Shixiong! You have not recovered, don't try to be a hero!"

Bai Fanlu said, "...I am indebted to Shizun’s kindness, and Shidi is in danger, I—"

He pretended to cough weakly, twice.

The book’s Bai Fanlu could not possibly have behaved like a coward, knowing that those two were in danger. Even if he was not concerned with preserving this persona, in this immortal cultivation world, if there were strange and stark changes to one’s behaviour, it is possible that his soul might be extracted for investigations on the suspicions of an imposter taking over a body. If it was discovered that his soul transmigrated...

In actuality, these were his honest thoughts: Hurry up and stop me, you only need to attempt a little more for me to pretend to have a relapse and finish off the performance with a fainting spell!

Yet, Wang Chongyu said, "Shixiong, you...Alright then, let’s not delay any further and head there together!"

Bai Fan Lu, "..."

Truly a burdensome friend.

Before he could say it out loud, Bai Fanlu felt his feet suddenly become lighter. All of a sudden he was pulled in by a strange force and dragged uncontrollably towards the heart of the battlefield.

"Shixiong!" Wang Chongyu, who had been looking ahead all this while, could not react in time. He only managed to touch a corner of Bai Fanlu’s robe in his attempt to grab him.

Bai Fanlu watched as Wang Chongyu flew on his sword to catch up as he was swept away by a black shadow. It appeared in the form of a snake, slithering and wrapping itself around Bai Fanlu's waist in an instant.

A powerful pressure shoved against his abdomen and Bai Fanlu felt a compression on his internal organs. Then, the black shadow divided into two, from two to three and quickly split up into countless others, severing his field of vision, throwing him into complete darkness.

A powerful sense of crisis jolted Bai Fanlu back to his senses. Wasn't this the demonic creature who was an ally to the book’s Bai Fanlu? Does the pretense have to go this far?

“Mo'er! Catch!"

It was Ling Qingzi's voice. A cold, green rope broke through the black fog and wrapped around his wrist. Bai Fanlu subconsciously held onto it, and the rope in his hand stiffened and turned into a short blade. When he slashed at the black fog, it immediately dissipated.

Bai Fanlu was surprised and continued with another slash at the fog wrapped around his waist. The fog divided into two, small, black snake-like figures, quickly becoming shorter, shrinking and escaping...

Bai Fanlu chased after them and found a mass of black shadows suspended in mid-air, vaguely in the outline of a human silhouette. It was the demonic creature which was attacking everyone.

"How presumptuous. Without the protection of Bing ZhuiIce Piercer, let's see how long you can last." The shadow’s voice echoed in the black fog.

When Bai Fanlu heard him mention ‘Bing Zhui’, he immediately realized that he was holding on to Ling Qingzi's magical weapon, which was capable of purifying demonic energy, and recalled that the book’s Bai Fanlu was also injured by it.

Without waiting for Bai Fanlu to ponder any longer, the demonic creature gathered itself and sent out another wave of attack directed towards Ling Qingzi on the lower platform.

A blue-robed man sat in the middle of the rounded platform, behind Ling Qingzi, his hair tossed poetically by the strong wind. Bai Fanlu was unable to see his face clearly because there were beams of golden light bursting from the hundred focal points above his head, and a glowing aura around him.

There was no need to guess, that was the main protagonist, Yun Zhan.

Bai Fanlu's heart thudded.

Ling Qingzi's left hand maintained a seal in front of his chest, he raised his right hand and summoned another defence barrier to protect both of them. In the midst of the loud booming sounds, a battle broke out between them and the black fog.

As the violent air current from their attacks dispersed, Bai Fanlu heard the black shadow sneer at Ling Qingzi, who took a large step backwards.

Then, a trail of red seeped out from the corner of his lips.

How can it be?

Bai Fanlu desperately recalled the original plot, and there was no such thing as Ling Qingzi giving up Bing Zhui and getting injured.

If this goes on and the demonic creature defeats Ling Qingzi, and Yun Zhan dies, won't it also be the end for him?

What kind of demonic creature is this? How can he be so powerful?

Bai Fanlu remembered the system's words ‘the plot development will have some inevitability’, and there was a war of words in his mind. Should he really go up and take a blow? Will the demonic creature deliver a softer blow for his sake?

"Zhenyuan Immortal, Ling Qingzii, so this is all that you can do?"The demonic creature taunted, as black mist spun like a hurricane, gathering and taking shape in the middle of his vaguely visible palm. The swirling wind around him pulled in masses of dark clouds. Looking at that stance, it was clear that the creature was about to launch a big attack.

This part of the plot was inevitable!

All right then, let's go for it!

Bai Fanlu didn't hesitate any longer, and just as he tightened his grip around Bing Zhui, he summoned an ice barrier. The demonic creature who was now closest to him, saw him move, yet froze for a moment.

Now was the moment. Wielding the blade swiftly like the wind, Bai Fanlu soared up and appeared in front of the demonic creature in a flash, shielding his body with the barrier with one hand while raising Bing Zhui up with the other.

A gap opened up in the thick, black demonic fog, revealing a frosty-white complexion behind it. A hand reached out and grabbed Bai Fanlu by the wrist.

That gaze…

Those blood-red pupils that seemed to belong to a ghost from hell, looked straight at him.

Bai Fanlu gulped instinctively. The blade which quickly returned to his hand now transformed back into a green rope, which replicated into multiple strands and darted straight towards the creature.

Bai Fanlu's wrist was loosened and the demonic creature turned into fog before Bing Zhui could bind it. At the same time, a small black crystalline object flew out of the fog, which Bai Fanlu dodged in a hurry. As the black crystal grazed his sleeve, he caught a glimpse that it was some kind of small, dart-like, concealed weapon.

Before he could think any further, countless black crystals followed, and shot out of the fog at Bai Fanlu!

Goodness! Wasn’t he going to stop since I am here now? Isn’t this too much of an act? Do I have to get hurt?

Using the reflexes of the body he inhabited, Bai Fanlu strengthened his barrier and countered the darts with his sword. But he could not get any closer to the creature, nor retreat any further. As he was flustered by the sheer number of concealed weapons attacking him, two darts bypassed his defence and attacks and came towards his face.

Bai Fanlu leaned back to dodge and watched as they brushed off two strands of his eyelashes and continued to fly onwards.

Losing his balance, Bai Fanlu almost fell out of the sky, but thanks to his flexible new body, he twisted and flipped to land back on his flying sword. With a flick of his wrist, he sent two blasts of qi and knocked the two concealed weapons askew. This sent them flying in the other direction at a faster and swifter speed.

"Ugh..."

Hearing a muffled grunt, Bai Fanlu was reminded that there were others around.

Someone had been hit and the demonic creature had stopped, probably curious as to which unlucky person it was.

Bai Fanlu followed the sound and looked down—

The blue-robed man's originally seated form shuddered slightly and slowly fell backwards, seemingly giving a reluctant glance this way before he fell.

Bai Fanlu was initially feeling all warmed up by the action...But at this moment, he experienced an ominous chill...... and felt turmoil in his heart.

"How dare you hurt my disciple, bold demon!" Ling Qingzi's cold voice sounded.

"..." Bai Fanlu pretended to slip and fell off his sword, successfully disengaging himself from the antagonist.

To the untrained eye, it looked rather like he had fainted from exhaustion.

The feeling of weightlessness made Bai Fanlu find his sense of self-rescue. He was thinking about how to land lightly when he suddenly felt his arm being tugged by someone. It turned out to be Wang Chongyu who had come to help him.

But that was not all, his body shook violently, and the two of them somehow fell off Wang Chongyu's flying sword together.

How burdensome...

At this point, there wasn’t even time to slow down as they hurled closer towards the ground. Suddenly, a green strobe appeared under the duo and Bing Zhui slipped around, entwined, and lifted the men gently up in mid-air. It was Ling Qingzi!

As the Spiritual Spring Formation was interrupted, Ling Qingzi no longer had to distract himself by supporting Yun Zhan. He raised his fingers in front of his chest and shouted, "Break!"

The next moment, a huge wave of aura wrapped around Ling Qingzi's body, his green robe sleeves and silver hair whipped up in the wind. He unleashed an attack with him at the centre, like a stone stirring up a thousand waves, crashing forcefully in all directions.

Bai Fanlu just wanted to see what was going on, but Wang Chongyu held his head down, and he could only feel the impact of the powerful energy, then a ringing in his ears.

After a long time, it stopped.

When he opened his eyes again, everything around him became unusually quiet.

Bai Fanlu sat up, but Wang Chongyu was quicker than him, and as soon as he got up, he immediately flew on his sword to the round platform. Bai Fanlu followed him.

Ling Qingzi was seated on his knees with his eyes closed, adjusting his breath.

Only then did Bai Fanlu remember, and when he looked around, he saw only numerous disciples standing, sitting or lying down, and no sign of the demon.

The most formidable immortal really lives up to his name...

Wang Chong Yu cupped his fist, "Shizun, the demonic creature broke in at this crucial time, this disciple suspects that the Sect has an infiltrator assisting it."

"En," Ling Qingzi's eyes were still shut, “I have activated a purification formation, the demon will show itself within half a day, you should lead some disciples to check around, find the infiltrators, and kill them with Bing Zhui."

"Understood!" Wang Chongyu received the order and went away to gather the disciples.

Bai Fanlu was left behind and he pondered what to say.

The Demon Purification Formation was known to him, and it had no effect on the book’s Bai Fanlu, so he wasn't afraid of being exposed.

And that demon creature just now, with its scarlet pupils and frosty white skin, fitted the description of a certain character's appearance: the final boss, the Great Elder of the Demon Clan.

But right now, the novel had only progressed to the middle, and that character’s appearance should have been much later. Then again, Bai Fanlu wasn't completely sure.

"Mo'er." Ling Qingzi opened his eyes.

Bai Fanlu returned to his senses and bowed in response, "Shizun."

"Yun Zhan has been injured by the demonic qi and suffers from internal injuries. You should bring him to the spiritual spring for a soak, and use the power of the spiritual spring to speed up your own recovery."

"..."

Spiritual Spring? Soak?

Bai Fanlu's right eyelid began to twitch rapidly.
