This Blackened Play is Too Realistic For Me.

The carriage went out of the village’s south entrance to the wide and smooth main road.

They arrived at the next town at dusk, and the prosperous sight that the Central Plains was well-known for was gradually becoming visible.

After dropping Su Yang and Gu Feidi off at an inn, Mei Shisan drove away to search for a market to sell off their carriage. Then he led their horses back to the inn and booked a single room for himself.

Being inconvenienced to eat downstairs because of Su Yang’s identity as a woman, Gu Feidi left Mei Shisan in the next room to take note of any movement and went to the dining hall by himself to inquire about any news and rumours.

The news of the Evil Sect’s Young Master travelling the Central Plains under disguise with two petal retainers was still spreading through the wind. Which incited the Central Plains Wulin’ fighters to capture the demon spawn and interrogate him for the Young Lord’s whereabouts.

A round-faced man sat opposite Gu Feidi and sneered at this news before turning toward him, “I don’t know where this news came from, must be spread from impulse!”

He lowered his voice and continued in a serious tone, “Su Yang has just taken Young Hero Gu into his Evil Sect, I don’t think the Young Hero Gu would be so easily tamed by Su Yang, so why would that demon spawn have the free time to journey across the Central Plains?”

Gu Feidi: “...”

Before Gu Feidi could chime in, there was a large, bearded man on the other side who smacked the table and pointed to the round-faced man, shouting, “Hey! Brat, you dare to question the information that the Wujiang Sect worked so hard to obtain? Could you be a spy planted by the Evil Sect?”

As soon as this accusation came out, the whole hall cast a questioning eye on the suspect.

The young man’s entire face was crimson as he yelled angrily, “What gives you the right to insult and accuse people!”

The person beside the bearded man stood up to the claim. “Then show us your token to prove your identity? Show us and we’ll believe you!”

The young man hesitated for a moment before getting his token out of his robes and tossed it on the table.

“I’m from the Qinglian Sect’s Left Main Hall, not some Evil Sect’s spy. Are we clear?” He snapped confidently. “The elder of my hall is an old friend of the Wujiang Sect’s Sect Head, this is well known in the whole of the Wulin!”

As soon as his token was out, a disdainful muttering started around the dining hall…

“Isn’t the Qinglian Sect on friendly terms with the Evil Sect?”

“Oh, you ignorant fool. On the surface, the Qinglian Sect and the Evil Sect are on good terms, but below that, it was something only they boasted about, claiming to be the only sect able to cooperate with the Evil Sect. Luckily, they couldn’t do the same with the Tengyun Pavilion or the Village of Mount Qianfeng. I heard the Huo Family’s oldest daughter was married into the Village of Mount Qianfeng, so the crafty sect tried to befriend the Huo Family. As for their elder’s acquaintance with the Wujiang Sect’s Sect Head, that fact is true, but hard to say what kind of relationship they really have…”

“Definitely! The Qinglian Sect, in fact, does not stand on any side. They are just some green foxtail 狗尾巴草 or Setaria viridis. A species of grass known by many names. They were used to describe Qinglian Sect because the grass is very tenacious on living, often not noticed by others as it quietly lives its life as a weed. taking both sides in a dispute while taking pride in it.”

“What you guys don’t know is, I heard that the second young master of the Qinglian Sect has been spotted around the Tengyun Pavilion’s youngest female disciple recently. Looks like he plans to do what the Huo Family did, forming a relationship with marriage. He didn’t even consider his status. Why would the Tengyun Pavilion pay regard to someone like him, especially the sect he is in?”

Gu Feidi watched the young man’s pained expression of astonishment, and asked, “The Qinglian Sect is in the northeast. Why are you here in the south?”

The young man didn’t expect Gu Feidi to acknowledge him. He saw no disgust in Gu Feidi’s eyes, which cheered up his gloomy mood a bit, as he quickly replied, “My father…Er, the elder asked me to go to the Tengyun Pavilion to search for my older…Er, find our second young master, to help him pursue…Er, help him with a task.”

Gu Feidi raised an eyebrow.

The round-faced young man knew he gave himself away, so he confessed helplessly, “My name is Fan Qi. My father asked me to come to find my older brother and to help him pursue a relationship with the Tengyun Pavilion’s Xiao Shimei.”

Gu Feidi couldn’t hold back his laughter.

Only then the doubting man shifted his attention from Fan Qi to Gu Feidi as he squinted his eyes toward him and snorted, “You are pretty suspicious yourself. I see you’re having a pleasant chat with the Qinglian Sect dog, and even ordered two of the same meals. Who else are you hiding in your room?”

Gu Feidi frowned at the question. “What does it have to do with you?”

The big bearded man bellowed, “The demon spawn came to my Central Plains with his two petal retainers to stir up trouble. You’re hiding someone in your room, which means we have to investigate. We might even grace the ‘Young Master’s’ presence.”

Saying that, he turned toward his fellow men in the dining hall. “Doesn’t everyone agree with me? We all live in the main rooms where we can see each other. While you who stayed upstairs gave us no visibility. How could you prove that you’re not travelling in a group of three? It’s necessary for us to examine your room!”

Gu Feidi glared at them dangerously and said in an ice-cold tone, “If the Young Master is really here. He must have heard everything. Do you think he will easily grant everyone mercy?”

When the crowd heard this, they glanced at each other and felt Gu Feidi had a point.

But not knowing why, the bearded man jumped out again, “The demon spawn must have some motive to hide his identity while travelling in the Central Plains. Naturally, to avoid revealing his whereabouts, he won’t initiate any action. Besides, how could a measly three men fight against the dozens of us here?”

Seeing his logic wasn’t getting through the man’s thick skull, Gu Feidi rebuked, “My wife is resting in the room. Why would I allow you to lay eyes on her?”

The large man bared his teeth and challenged, “We only have your words on this. How would I know that the one in your room is your wife and not the demon spawn?”

This group of busybodies were soon incited by the nosy man who achieved his goal of stirring up chaos. He hooted around on how they must check Gu Feidi and Fan Qi’s rooms.

Fan Qi, who travelled alone, had nothing to fear. But seeing Gu Feidi who kept insisting on refusing, he couldn’t help muttering, “This friend…are there really no secrets in your room?”

Gu Feidi gave everyone the cold shoulder as he took the uneaten food upstairs.

But someone suddenly grabbed his arm.

The large bearded man grinned maliciously. “Oh? This friend is making himself more and more suspicious. Why don’t we accompany you upstairs to deliver the meal? We might even catch a glance at who is really in the room. Would it be the wife that you claimed or the evil monster?”

Being at his wit’s end, Gu Feidi used his internal energy to force the man back with his palm.

He cautioned with a sarcastic smile, “I have never heard such a rude request—”

Then, the sound of a door opening came from the upstairs corridor, followed by two ‘thumps’ from a finger knocking at the door.

Everyone turned towards the sound. Their mouths and eyes were completely wide open, as they were all stunned in place.

Gu Feidi turned his head to see Su Yang, who was leaning softly and weakly against the corridor pillar. His ‘wife’ tried to move forward without stumbling. He managed to hold back his laughter.

Fortunately, his self-control was high, as he swallowed back his laughter and took the dinner plate upstairs in a jog. He said tenderly, “Why are you out? Let me take you back to our room…”

Seeing Gu Feidi was out of the noisy men’s confinement, Su Yang nodded shyly. He leaned into Gu Feidi’s arms, shakingly walked step by step and back into the room.

The main hall was so still that a pin drop could be heard.

After a moment, Fan Qi sucked in a breath and sighed, “If my future lady has such a gorgeous appearance, I also won’t want anyone to lay their eyes on her! Even a house built from gold is not worthy of her to stay in!”

Even if this declaration was said by someone in the Qinglian Sect, others immediately nodded in agreement, and began to praise and sigh from that glimpse of the graceful lady.

The big bearded man peered at the door where Su Yang and Gu Feidi disappeared into, lecherously smacked his lip, and exchanged a look with the person from his table.

“Why did you leave the room?” Gu Feidi placed the plate on the table once he was inside. “Didn’t we agree that you’ll show your face as little as possible?”

Su Yang curled his lips and whispered, “I can hear the loud racket all the way from up here. If I didn’t go out, you would have started a fight with them. I’m still in disguise anyway. Let them have a far view from the corridor rather than a closer look.”

Powerless against that logic, Gu Feidi reached out and flicked Su Yang’s nose. “Fine, your dinner is served.”

Su Yang was startled.

He covered his nose and stuttered, “Why-why did you-ou do that?”

Gu Feidi handed the chopsticks to Su Yang’s hands, and smiled warmly, “Enjoy your meal, my beloved wife.”

Su Yang: “...”

Why did he feel like Gu Feidi was asking for a beating more and more?

When the sky turned dark, the men gathered in the main hall went back to the large room for the day in twos and threes. Only a few remained, asking for alcohol and dishes to go with it, as they continued to sit at the table and talk about the day.

The bearded man from before, who tried to force his way in to investigate Gu Feidi’s room, was among them. His eyes glanced upstairs from time to time. Finally, after the sky was completely dark, Gu Feidi exited out of the room and walked down the stairs. It appeared he planned to freshen himself up.

Once he was far away, the large man gave his companion an eye signal, who then followed Gu Feidi out to the backyard, while the man stepped up to the inn’s second floor.

Inside the room, Su Yang was having a crisis.

He took the time to give himself a false chest, and his hair was carefully weaved with ribbons. He probably could not shed his disguise to sleep, which meant he would need to rely on meditation to relieve his tiredness for the next few nights. But as a lazy person, he preferred to sleep rather than meditate. He was stuck in this sticky predicament.

He heard the door being pushed open, and as Su Yang turned back to complain to Gu Feidi, he was shocked to see a wide figure in dark clothes walking toward him.

“Hehehe, little lady—” The bearded man called out in a husky tone. “Your man is busy right now, so why don’t you come to play with this master?”

Su Yang: “...”

What method should he use to kill this guy?

So, Su Yang pretended to act in fear, as he stepped back and lifted his hand to clench his fist delicately, playing the act of a frightened wife. He blinked his wide eyes, appearing as pitiful as possible at the man. Under the dim candlelight, he looked increasingly more vulnerable.

The scared expression obviously stimulated the large man. His eyes were fixed on the ‘young lady’ as he extended out his tongue to lick his lips. Bypassing the table and the chair, he was quickly closing the distance.

Su Yang wordlessly retreated to the corner of the bed, and curled up like a fearful kitten, while reaching for the dagger in his bag.

“Oh? So you’re actually a mute? That’s too bad, this will be less pleasurable…” The man gave a nasty grin. “There’s always a flaw in a pure white jade. No wonder someone as beautiful as you would marry such a weak chicken…”

As he said that, he reached out his hand toward Su Yang’s face.

Then, a young man suddenly burst into the door with a shout.

“Stop!” Fan Qi kicked the big man aside. He said with a snort, “I knew you were up to no good! My time spent in the dark observing was not in vain. You were really harbouring such malicious intentions toward the beautiful lady! And you even called yourself a martial artist of the righteous way! You’ll pay for your evil deeds with your life—!”

Su Yang, who was about to stab the pervert in the eyes: “...”

Er, who the heck is this guy?!

At the same time, Mei Shisan had arrived at the door and saw there was already a man in the room who came to Su Yang’s rescue, so he quietly returned to his room.

The large man was clearly angry with Fan Qi. “It’s you again! Brat, you spoiled this great one’s fun, I’m going to crush—”

Before he could finish his death threat, Gu Feidi jumped into the room from the window while carrying a knocked unconscious man. With a flick of his wrist, he threw the man he was carrying at the large man. Holding nothing back, the two men crashed into the wall, making a loud bang. It felt as if the whole inn shook like there was an earthquake.

The bearded man spewed out blood from the force, laying on the ground, unable to get up.

Gu Feidi narrowed his eyes at Fan Qi, not saying a single word.

Fan Qi’s attention was on the two men who fell to the ground in a pile for a while, then back at Gu Feidi. He swallowed his saliva and stuttered with a trembling voice, “I-I-I was only here to help! I-I will be on my way now!”

As soon as he finished, he turned his head to leave.

But, he was stopped by Gu Feidi’s calling, “Don’t leave now, come and help me.”

Fan Qi shivered. “...Ah?”

Gu Feidi didn’t answer immediately. He pointed to the big bearded man at the corner of the way, looked toward Su Yang and asked, “Did he touch you?”

Su Yang blinked in a daze, glanced toward Fan Qi, and shook his head.

Gu Feidi hummed with a pleased smile, “At first I planned to chop off his hands. Since he didn’t touch you, I guess he is lucky that his corpse will remain intact.”

Su Yang: “...”

Xiao Gu…Isn’t your blackened play a bit too realistic?

Gu Feidi drew his long blade and walked towards the large man.

After a long coughing session, the big bearded man pushed away his companion and urged, “You-you can’t kill me! I’m from the Tongyun Monastery! If you kill me, my Monastery will never let you go!”

Su Yang raised an eyebrow, thinking, ‘Why would he give away his identity before we beat it out of him?’

Gu Feidi didn’t stop his approach as he placed his blade at the man’s heart, smiling brightly. “Oh! What a coincidence. I happen to be very close with the Tongyun Monastery. How come I don’t remember someone like you…?”

The other man broke their eye contact. “...I-I rarely stay in the Monastery…”

Gu Feidi put more pressure on his sword and demanded, “Tell me the truth!”

The large man shouted unconsciously from the pain, “Don-don’t kill me! I’m…I’m actually…an undercover informant from the Wujiang Sect! You don’t want to provoke my Sect, right? Right? You don’t believe me? Well, I have my Sect’s token right here! See!”

With that, he really pulled out his token and lifted it for Gu Feidi to see.

Gu Feidi raised the corner of his lip as he reached out to show the bone whistle in his hand.

“Since you’re from the Wujiang Sect, then why…would the E’Luo Gui Faction’s bone whistle be in your companion’s possession?”
