I’ll Accompany You With a Smile…Every Day.
Su Yang came forward and picked up the paper to read the curse carefully, twice.
He could roughly understand that the first ten words were not positive, even if there was wool over his eyes, but the meaning of the next ten words was very clear.
“It’s saying that…” Su Yang looked up at Luo Yu. “...I won’t live past my coming of age 弱冠 In ancient time, when young men (not women) reached the age of twenty, they could officially call themselves adults. So they would be putting on their ‘adult hat’ (crown/ guan/ 冠) to start their path to adulthood, but their bodies are still just that of young men, symbolised by the weak (ruo/ 弱) in the name. I should have touched upon this from the start, since it's a very important part of the story. ?”
Luo Yu released a deep breath, instead of answering, he asked, “You’re nineteen this year?”
Su Yang nodded. “Yes.”
Luo Yu asked another question, “Is your birthday in summer?”
Su Yang replied, “Yes…The fifth month.”
After a brief pause, Su Yang questioned, “You said just now that this curse needed magic...the life of my close relatives?”
Luo Yu was silent for a while. He took away the paper with the curse written on it from Su Yang’s hand, threw it into the lantern and burned it.
“It’s late.” He avoided the question. “The disciple outside will take you to the guest house to rest. You should spend more time with Gu Feidi these next few days.”
Hearing this, Su Yang suddenly remembered that Gu Feidi had seen what was engraved on his back.
Recalling the emotion in Gu Feidi’s eyes earlier, Su Yang suddenly felt a layer of pain and bitterness, mixed with strong worry and anxiety. Tossing the question of whose life the curse sacrificed to the back of his mind, he quickly said goodnight to Luo Yu and ran out of the room.
When he hurried into the guest courtyard, Su Yang’s attention was captured by Gu Feidi, who was dancing with his sword in the snow.
Gu Feidi was dressed in white. The long sword in his hand reflected light onto the fine snowflakes, which sprinkled a glittering brilliance and stirred them into a frenzy.
In a trance, Su Yang seemed to feel a shivering sense of killing intense from each strike.
As if Gu Feidi noticed Su Yang right away, he sheathed his sword and strode forward to embrace the other person.
“It’s cold outside.” He whispered into Su Yang’s ear. “Let’s go inside.”
As he said this, he interlocked his fingers with Su Yang’s and led him back to the room.
After closing the door, Gu Feidi stared into Su Yang’s eyes and remained silent. After a long time, it seemed that he finally had the courage to speak.
He asked, “What did the senior say? How’s your health…?”
Su Yang forced himself to confront Gu Feidi’s eyes and showed a soothing smile. “The problem lies in using my skill, which would make me more susceptible to cold…Now we are on the snowy mountain. I can’t practice martial arts and use my internal energy so carelessly like before. So…I need to…recuperate for the time being.”
He didn’t want to deceive Gu Feidi by saying he was fine, but he didn’t want to make Gu Feidi sad, so he decided to answer with something ambiguous.
Gu Feidi was not swayed as he reconfirmed, “You are really alright?”
Su Yang was at a loss for words.
He put his arms around Gu Feidi’s waist, leaned over and touched the other’s forehead, and gently pressed the tip of his nose. Then he closed his eyes, turned his head and captured Gu Feidi’s lips for a silent kiss.
Feeling Su Yang’s chilly lips, Gu Feidi’s eyes landed on Su Yang’s eyelashes. Those eyelashes were thick as crow feathers. They trembled slightly and covered his eyes with a dark shadow under the dim candlelight.
Gu Feidi swallowed and slowly closed his eyes, covering all the deep agonising feelings in them.
He raised his hand and pressed the back of Su Yang’s neck to force an entrance to the other’s mouth, deepening the kiss.
After heavy breathing that happened for a long time, they pecked a few more times before they pulled apart from each other, but the love remained, embracing tightly against the other’s heart.
“I want to be with you forever…” Gu Feidi whispered. “I don’t want to be separated from you…separations in life, or…”
In the end, he choked and couldn’t say the final words, parting at death.
Su Yang sighed internally.
He patted Gu Feidi on the back twice and comforted softly, “Just now, I let the Doctor read the words on my back.”
Gu Feidi trembled, but he didn’t get up from Su Yang’s shoulder. He continued to hold the man in his arms.
Su Yang raised his hand and stroked Gu Feidi’s hair. “...It’s just a curse. There’s nothing to worry about.”
Gu Feidi still remained silent.
“In fact, you should know already.” Su Yang smiled. “My origin…I’m not the original Evil Sect’s Young Master. Therefore, this curse might have already been fulfilled. That’s why…I’m here right now.”
This statement had a basis. Gu Feidi frowned and pondered for a moment. He straightened up and gazed into Su Yang’s eyes.
Su Yang grinned and reassured, “You see, those words were engraved a long time ago, so it should target this body’s original soul. The real Young Master…died once because of the curse. Now the curse shouldn’t work the second time, I think? Besides, I’m not some wandering soul. I felt that…the curse should have no effect on me.”
Gu Feidi moved his hand to gently caress Su Yang’s cheek. He murmured, “But I’m afraid of ‘what ifs’...”
Su Yang actually wasn’t sure whether the twenty characters curse would really affect him or not.
After all, he transmigrated here, and the plot belonging to the real Evil Sect’s Young Master would end this winter. He didn’t know whether the rules that governed this world would allow him to stay.
Moreover, the Apparition and the three cold mental skills posed a fatal threat to him.
But Su Yang refused to be full of remorse.
He chuckled and insisted, “Even with ‘what ifs’, we can’t change everything…Why don’t we seize every moment together, complete a few more wishes and create more memories?”
Then he closed the distance and gave Gu Feidi a light peck, asking, “If you have anything you want to do with me, better tell me now.”
Gu Feidi stared into Su Yang’s eyes for a long time as the corner of his lip twitched, and he finally managed to show a smile.
“I have too many things that I want to do with you.” He murmured. “But they are not very urgent. To me, as long as you are beside me, anything is good. If you’ve anything you want to do, let me know and I’ll accompany you.”
Su Yang pondered. “Me? Of course, I have something I want to do. But…”
Gu Feidi gazed at him attentively and waited for the next words.
Su Yang’s eyes curved in a crescent moon as he smiled, teasing, “But you can’t refuse them once we get rid of the Blood Gu.”
Gu Feidi promised, “I won’t refuse any of your requests.”
With his arms around Gu Feidi’s neck, Su Yang tilted his head and asked with a bright smile, “Really?”
Gu Feidi confirmed, “Really.”
Su Yang suddenly remembered a love expression that he saw on the internet. He blinked and shared, “Then, you love me for four days, alright?”
Gu Feidi didn’t understand. “...Four days?”
Su Yang nodded. “Spring, summer, autumn, and winter.”
Gu Feidi was startled, but a smile appeared on his face.
Before he could speak, Su Yang asked the next question, “Perhaps three days is acceptable as well.”
Gu Feidi waited quietly for Su Yang to reveal the answer.
Su Yang exclaimed, “Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
Gu Feidi smiled and nodded. “Alright.”
Su Yang said as if to himself. “In return, I’ll love you for two days…”
A bright, glittering emotion flashed through Gu Feidi’s eyes, like he knew the answer, yet he didn’t interrupt Su Yang. He just smiled at this new side of Su Yang he had never seen, eyes full of tenderness and affection.
Su Yang continued, “...Day and night.”
Gu Feidi smiled. “Then…”
“Hey, don’t interrupt me, or I’ll only love you for one day!” Su Yang raised his eyebrows and pretended to be angry.
“Every dayTo explain this love confession, ‘day’ in Chinese is 天 or tian. All the answers to Su Yang’s questions have ‘day’ in it (I underlined them since it’s more obvious than bold). The four days: 春天, 夏天, 秋天, 冬天. The three days: 昨天, 今天. 明天. Two days: 白天, 黑天. One day: 每一天. You can actually add a seven days: 星期一到星期天 or Monday to Sunday (go check out the easter egg below).?” Gu Feidi asked.
Su Yang: “...”
Hmph! So annoying! Teasing a non-modern person using cheesy pick-up lines and it backfired on me in just minutes, what a killjoy!
“Where did you learn this?” Gu Feidi wondered.
Feeling a little dissatisfied, Su Yang rebuked, “What do you mean where did I learn this? Couldn’t I think of this myself?”
Gu Feidi said with a smile, “You’re not exactly a person of wordsRaw is ‘with the amount of ink in your stomach’ (你肚子裡那點墨水). This is to insult the person’s cultural knowledge. The more ink in a person’s stomach, the more cultured they are. . I can’t see you coming up with this yourself.”
Su Yang: “...”
He huffed, “Are you laughing at me! Gu Feidi, let me tell you, the ship in our friendship is over! Capsized!”
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand and pushed Gu Feidi’s shoulder hard, trying to push the other man away.
However, whether he used his full strength or not, Gu Feidi knew. He chuckled and wrapped the adorable person in his arms, kissing him on the cheek.
“It doesn’t matter if the boat capsized,” Gu Feidi grinned. “You and I can just drown in love, isn’t that more beautiful?”
Su Yang: “...”
...Alright, you win.
Looking at Su Yang’s little action of rolling his eyes, Gu Feidi smiled.
He lowered his hands and clasped them together with Su Yang’s fingers. “It’s getting late and we have many things waiting for us tomorrow. Let’s rest early so we will have energy the next day.”
The two did their nightly routine, then lay in bed in each other’s arms. Before they could have a short conversation, Su Yang fell into a deep sleep.
Gu Feidi hugged the man in his arms tighter, closed his eyes and tried not to let the wetness in them fall.
“I know you don’t want me to feel sad…” He whispered in the sleeping man’s ear. “...Then I’ll accompany you with a smile…every day.”
* * *
In the deep night, the clouds gathered at the top of Elegant Jade Peak finally dispersed, as the snow stopped.
This was a very common light snow, which covered the top of the frozen mountain all year round, and created a constant surrounding scenery. In the hot spring in the backyard, the mist on the pool surface was still streaming quietly, blurring the bright stars from the sky.
Qin Jianyue just finished taking a bath and returned to the room with his scattered and slightly wet hair. He saw Luo Yu sitting in a daze under the lamp. “What’s wrong? You’ve been absent-minded since you diagnosed and treated Su Yang…”
Luo Yu slowly released a breath. His eyes were void of emotion as he whispered, “Could you tell me, what reason could a mother have, to curse her child to an early death using her own life?”
Qin Jianyue sat next to Luo Yu, frowned and asked, “Using life for a curse…Are you talking about E’Luo Gui Faction’s Blood Curse?”
“Yes, the Blood Curse.” Luo Yu closed his eyes slightly. “If she didn’t want to have his child, why couldn’t she find a way to prevent the birth of the child with her means and skills? Since she gave birth to him, why would she act so cruelly…?”
Although there was no start and end to this statement, Qin Jianyue pondered over it and immediately understood what had happened.
He questioned, “There is a Blood Curse on Su Yang? And it was done by Jin-er?”
Luo Yu closed his eyes and nodded.
“Since Su Yang lived most of his life in the Evil Sect, it means Jin-er had never returned to the ice field, otherwise, the Royal Court would never have let Su Yang leave.” He whispered. “Except for the Great Shaman and shaman in the Royal Court, Jin-er is the only person under the Great Shaman’s teaching that knew how to perform the curse…I always thought Su Huaizhu was the one who forced her strange death that year…”
As he spoke, there was an indistinct tremor in his voice. “But now, it seems that she herself wanted to die…in order to curse her child. I don’t understand, why would she do this?”
For a long time, Qin Jianyue suggested, “Maybe…for revenge?”
Luo Yu snorted, and it was hard to tell whether it was sarcasm or bitterness.
He said, “In the past, I was too young and only cared about my own fun. I didn’t pay attention to her relationship with Su Huaizhu and Gu Ruohai. I just thought they were brothers I met in the House of Jade. They had deep feelings for each other and should be reliable…Who would have thought that things would change so quickly. Even now, Su Huaizhu has never explained why he treated Jin-er like that…”
“Su Huaizhu has always been like this. Hiding everything inside.” Qin Jianyue stated. “In fact, it’s not too late for you to ask him. Whether there is a misunderstanding or some absurd reason, since you’re uncertain now, get to the bottom of things.”
After a long silence, Luo Yu sighed, “I’m going to prepare medicine for Su Yang that might help him suppress the cold illness. Since you need to go down the mountain tomorrow to get the ingredients needed for the prescription, I should write a letter along the way so you can send it to the Evil Sect for me…”
Teo's Easter Egg
SY: I’m using cool pick up lines. Are you impressed? *smug face*
GFD: Where did you learn that?
SY: D:
I wonder if it really was the mother. Well, I guess we will find out later on.
Thx for the ch ٩( >ヮ<)۶
That people or pick up line, whatever, was so sweet and cheesy. I love it. Their flirting was so adorable. We know that it’s a happy ending, but that angst train is till approaching at full speed and so the flirting was bittersweet too.
I love pain, as long as it’s HE. Hehe.
I love the pick-up lines here a lot. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can use them in real life. Lol. I’m too lazy to explain where the “day” in the four seasons is. Having to explain your pick up line is such a buzzkill. It only works in Chinese. Lmao.
Absolute happy endings on Peach Blossom, I promise! I love angst too, but there has to be a lovely, sweet finish to round out the bitter.
they’re so sweet im getting a diabetes …the angst tho ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
oh god theyre so sweet im squealing <3 <3
